Poll: Should Collision-Avoidance Technology be Made Mandatory for UK Lorries?

Earlier this week, the Institute of Mechanical Engineers published a report calling for compulsory technology to be implemented in all UK trucks by 2015 in a bid to help prevent driver "blind-spot" deaths of pedestrians and cyclists.

Such technology is already in the pipeline, using sensors to alert drivers of potential accident risks and obstacles to the rear side of the vehicle, such as cyclists.

According to the report HGVs cause 20% of fatal collisions involving cyclists, however only make up 5% of traffic on UK roads.
