The Institute of Advanced Motorists (the UK's largest independent road safety charity) have discovered startling instances of excessive speeding across England and Wales last year. In some cases, the charity found that motorists were caught breaking the speed limit by almost 100mph.
The figures came after a request to the police for information about the highest recorded occurrences of extreme speed caught on safety cameras last year. The two worst cases of speeding fell under the jurisdiction of Kent Police, both occurring on the M25. On a 30mph road in East Grinstead, in what can be considered as one of the most surprising figures recorded, the authorities caught a driver exceeding the speed limit by 98mph.
Sarah Sillars, IAM chief executive officer, said: "It is disheartening to say the least that some road users are showing such disregard for the safety of all other road users ??? pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and other drivers."
Within the study there is no mention of whether any of these incidents occurred in company registered vehicles, but with speeding still evidently a problem on our roads, it's imperative that fleet managers and business owners have the ability to monitor the speed that their employees drive at.
Navman Wireless tracking solutions enable businesses to monitor driver behaviour which can act as a deterrent to those who may be tempted to break speed limits.
