The number of motoring offences committed by fleet drivers surged by 16 per cent in 2014 with fines and penalties totalling to £9.42m – compared to £8.08m in 2013.
According to recent research compiled by Lex Autolease, data collated from a fleet of 290,000 +company vehicles noted that company drivers committed 20,525 more offences last year compared to 2013 after a rise in parking and speeding violations.
Parking fines rose by approximately a quarter (23 per cent) while the number of company drivers caught speeding, driving whilst on a mobile phone or driving dangerously increased by 16 per cent.
Guy Mason, Head of Fleet Operations at Lex Autolease, said: "Businesses ought to be concerned by the increase in the total number of motoring offences, especially the rise in more serious infringements such as speeding and driving while on a mobile phone.
"Company drivers are often under more pressure than ordinary motorists to complete each journey as quickly and efficiently as possible. Unfortunately the need to hit deadlines or attend meetings on time can sometimes lead to poor behaviour on the road."
Vehicle tracking software gives business owners and managers the ability to combat speeding by monitoring driver behaviour, therefore those with jurisdiction over a fleet are capable of giving feedback where instances of speeding occur.
The Smart Telematics system from Navman Wireless generates information about how the vehicles within your fleet are being driven and that can act as an incredible tool to advise your drivers on how they can improve the way they drive and therefore reduce the chance of speeding fines.
