Challenge:
One Manchester operates within a large and densely populated urban area, where more than a third of the roads are now subject to a 20-mph speed limit aimed at enhancing safety in and around the city. Amid reports of drivers exceeding these speed limits, the local housing association was keen to set a high standard for its drivers and improve overall driver performance. With the support of its long-term telematics partner, Teletrac Navman, One Manchester sought to address these challenges.
Having worked with Teletrac Navman for more than ten years, I always knew we were in safe hands, and as ever, they understood our challenges. They were determined to help us deliver improvements to driver behaviour and road safety, as well as get the maximum ROI out of the solution.
- Steve Welborn, Facilities Manager
Solution:
After thorough consultation, Teletrac Navman’s Professional Services Team implemented a new driver scorecard and reporting feature through its fleet management platform. This system enabled managers to monitor and evaluate performance based on specific driving metrics, allowing them to identify drivers who required additional training. By utilising the reporting suite in Teletrac Navman’s platform, One Manchester was able to track the number of speeding events and pinpoint which drivers were responsible. Subsequently, the organisation established a driver safety programme that motivates drivers through scorecards, aiming to foster better behaviour and enhance morale. Additionally, One Manchester is considering the introduction of its own e-learning driver training programme and a driver incentive scheme to reward good performance in the future.
We’ve already witnessed a 70% drop in speeding events just months after installation, so it certainly feels like we’ve achieved a great deal in a short space of time.
Results:
The implementation of the DIRECTOR platform has yielded significant benefits for One Manchester, demonstrating the solution's effectiveness in promoting safety and accountability.
- Complete Visibility of Fleet Performance: One Manchester has achieved 100% visibility of its fleet’s performance, enabling effective monitoring and management of driver activities.
- Significant Reduction in Speeding Events: The organisation has experienced a 70% decrease in speeding incidents within just a few months of implementing the new system.
- Enhanced Driver Accountability: The scorecard system has fostered a culture of friendly competition among drivers, encouraging them to improve their performance based on comparisons with company averages and the best driver in the fleet.
