Challenge:
While DSV in the UK has a large fleet, it also has an even larger bank of drivers covering varying shifts, distances, and contracts. The disparate nature of the workforce made it challenging to maintain consistent driving standards, resulting in high fuel consumption and increased costs. Additionally, there were no benchmarks in place for performance appraisal. The introduction of the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence further emphasized the need for a tailored Driver Training Programme to ensure compliance and capability among the workforce.
Prior to introducing our DIRECTOR-informed training, our fleet was operating at a Score of 82%, we’re now consistently at an average Fleet Driver Score of over 90%. So we’re really seeing the rewards of introducing leading telematics technology to our fleet as part of our ongoing Training Programmes.

Solution:
To address these challenges, Teletrac Navman provided a fully integrated solution that centered around its award-winning DIRECTOR platform. This advanced fleet tracking system gives fleet managers access to real-time data through an easy-to-use interface. DIRECTOR offers a diverse range of information, from the real-time location of individual vehicles to monitoring fuel usage and driver performance. Coupled with Teletrac Navman’s Smart Telematics performance reporting, the platform not only helps to significantly cut fuel costs through more effective route planning but also optimizes vehicle use, increases business productivity, improves driver behavior, and potentially reduces insurance premiums.
Results:
The implementation of the DIRECTOR platform has led to substantial improvements for DSV, particularly in driver performance and operational efficiency. The key outcomes include:
- Enhanced Fleet Driver Scores: Prior to implementing DIRECTOR-informed training, the fleet operated at a score of 82%. Following the introduction of the system, DSV has consistently achieved an average Fleet Driver Score of over 90%, reflecting improved driving standards.
- Improved Fuel Efficiency: By utilizing real-time data for monitoring fuel usage and optimizing routes, DSV has been able to reduce fuel consumption and associated costs, contributing to overall financial savings.
- Informed Training Programs: The detailed insights into driver behavior provided by DIRECTOR have been instrumental in shaping a new training program that addresses specific areas for improvement, ensuring compliance with industry standards and enhancing overall driver capability.
